In this package: A 230 pages book plus a 43-minute color/black-white instructional DVD.
This publication has been designed to be used with high-risk youth in school and community and in probation, detention and corrections settings.
The curricula is based on the innovative work of the Violence Intervention Program, a collaborative project of the New Mexico Center for Dispute Resolution and the Juvenile Probation and Parole Office in Bernalillo County, NM.
The Violence Intervention Program is dedicated to the idea that much personal violence can be prevented by giving youth the strategies to control impulsive behaviors. Managing personal behavior by making informed choices and by acknowledging the consequences of their own actions for themselves and for others is a major emphasis of this curricula.
The contents include exercises in anger management, consequential thinking, problem solving, communication, conflict management and negotiation skills and incorporate a range of activities and learning styles, e. g. discussion, video sequences, physical movement, role playing, role play, self-analysis, cooperative learning activities and art. These varied approaches value individual learning styles brought to groups and allow participants to better integrate skills and concepts through active learning.
