The Sandoval Senior Connection program is a dynamic program offered by Outcomes to meet the needs of elders, families and staff members who serve elders in Sandoval County.
Our volunteer Peer Counselors make supportive weekly home visits through a program that benefits both the Peer Counselor and the counseling recipient. Counselors provide not only emotional support but also referrals to resources and networking with agencies, if necessary. The program director and volunteers also provide educational programs and discussion groups at senior sites around Sandoval County.
The goal of our Sandoval Senior Connection program is to lend an ear and engage the spirit of fellow elders, through peer counseling services.
As part of this program we offer:
- Educational Presentations (topics to be covered may include normal aging, depression and anxiety in later life, and coping with loss)
- Free Peer Counseling Services (in-home counseling services from trained senior peer volunteers, for residents of Sandoval County aged 55 or older)
- Training in Peer Counseling (for senior volunteers)
Our peer counselors have been trained on issues of depression, anxiety, grief & loss, and dementia as well as empathic listening. We see the difference every week for our clients who are happier and often more physically healthy. Often family members are positively impacted as well.
Our goal is to make the aging experience transformative, integrating the elders’ past experiences with present reality, and to revive passion and vitality in this stage of life.
If you or someone you know would like to participate in one of our educational presentations, please visit our upcoming events page. If you would like to receive free peer counseling services, please contact us to schedule a visit.
