Outcomes, Inc.

This event started six years ago as a way to honor Grandparents Raising Grandchildren for their important contribution to improving the lives of children.  The sacrifices and unconditional love these grandparents give the children they care for often goes unrecognized.  There are many sleepless nights,  retirement plans are put on hold, financial difficulties seem to be unending, and many other issues keep coming.  These grandparents never give up in their quest to provide a better life for the children.   Most of them don’t consider the care they provide a sacrifice, but rather a blessing.  The love they receive from the children keeps them moving forward through the tough times. This event is our way of saying “Thank You” to these  heroes who step up to be parents for the grandchildren.   The Holiday Tea Open House gives this special group of people the opportunity to meet other grandparents in the same situation and helps them network as they search out  needed resources.   This year Outcomes, Inc. along with All Faiths Receiving Home, National Indian Council on Aging, Inc. and Youth Development, Inc. are co-sponsoring the event to provide a way for these families to come together and share the joys and challenges of raising children the second time around.  Meeting other grandparent and kinship families helps them know that they are not alone and hopefully find the support they need as they journey parenthood once again.

The grandparents who attend are able to relax and enjoy being with other adults while the children are cared for.  The children are occupied with play time, art projects and provided with food and snacks.  It may not seem like such a major event for us,  but one grandmother remarked “it is so nice to be able to sit down to eat” and does really make a difference for them.
